이브 아놀드는 미국 필라델피아에서 태어났으며 그녀의 부모는 러시아 이민자였다. 그녀는 1946년에 뉴욕의 포토랩에서 사진을 시작하였고 알렉세이 브로도비치와 함께 1948년 뉴스쿨(뉴욕대)에서 사진을 전공하였다.

아놀드는 1951년에 매그넘에 소속이 되었고 1957년에 전속 멤버로 승격 되었다. 1950년대까지 그녀는 미국에 근거를 두며 활동하였으나 1962년 아들의 공부를 위해 영국으로 건너갔으며 6년간의 미국과 중국에서 작업을 제외하고는 계속하여 영국에 거주해 오고 있다.

중국에서의 사진 작업은 1980년에 그녀로 하여금 브루클린 박물관에서의 첫 메이저급 전시회를 오픈 할 여건을 마련해주었다. 같은 해에 그녀는 내셔널 북 어워드를 중국에서 수상하였으며,'American Society of Magazine Photographers"로 부터 평생 공로상을 수여 받았다.

후에도 그녀는 많은 영예와 상을 얻었는데 1995년에는 영국 왕립 사진연구회의 특별 회원이 되었으며
같은 해에 ICP(New York's International Center of Photography)의 마스터 포토그래퍼로도 뽑혔다. 
1962년에는 사진집 '회고'로 영국의 Kraszna-Krausz 상을 수상하였고 세인트 안드류와 스탭포드샤이어 대학 그리고 런던의 미국 국제대학에서 명예 학위를 받았으며 대영박물관의 필름 앤 텔레비전 부분 고문으로 활동하였으며
현재까지 12권의 책을 남겼다.
